New Book Celebrates Letchworth State Park Four Local Authors Tell Story of the "Grand Canyon of the East" |

When I was recently contacted by Lynn Ruggieri of Arcadia Publishing and asked if I would consider reviewing a new book on Letchworth State Park and possibly include it on the SilverLakeView web site, I immediately said yes. Her letter prompted me to realize that with all of the wealth of regional information available on the 'view, there was really nothing here on Letchworth.
When I received my review copy of Images of America: Letchworth State Park, I didn't immediately have an opportunity to look through it, but my wife Sara picked it up and spent quite a while with it. She soon came back and said, "This is really good! You need to take a look at this." So I did. And I have to admit, this is a great little book. The photographic reproduction qualities and rich historical documentary are the best I've seen anywhere. There are tons of incredible black and white photographs, and the authors have definitely done their homework on the Letchworth Park History. But then, when you consider their backgrounds, it's easy to understand their passion for this material.
I highly recommend this volume. If you're like me and you love vintage photography and learning about the area's rich history, you will thoroughly enjoy this volume. And if you are a contributing patron of the 'View, be sure to take advantage of our special limited offer to provide a special thank you gift for your support! Gene |

Letchworth State Park follows the course of the Genesee River, cutting the gorges and mighty waterfalls of Letchworth after its Ice Age detour from the ancestral Genesee Valley. Today, the park is a model of responsibility in preservation and restoration of a natural treasure. In over 200 vintage photographs, local authors Thomas A. Breslin, Thomas S. Cook, Russell A. Judkins and Thomas C. Richens provide a rudimentary understanding of the growth of agricultural, community and recreational development in the area. They hope the book will "leave an appreciation of nature, history and the possibility of individual contribution to the common good, as well as stimulate interest in the history of Letchworth State Park and the work of William Pryor Letchworth. |
